Summer Reading Club 2010 General Information:

The 2010 Summer Reading Club theme is "Make a Splash!" Stop into the library for more details, but here's some helpful information to start:

Summer Reading Kickoff event will be Monday, June 28th at 6:30pm, with our One Book Giveaway. The remaining Monday nights of the program will be family night programs, and will be geared toward various age groups depending on the program itself. No program will be held on July 5th, as the library is closed for July 4th holiday, and Eric Wight, author of the Frankie Pickle books, will be returning July 12th. The finale to be held at the township pool is scheduled for August 9th.

Elementary school age programming will be held on Tuesdays beginning June 29th and ending August 3rd. All programs are for the grade your child is entering in the Fall of 2010. K-1st grade will meet at 10am, 2nd-3rd grade will meet at 12pm and 4-5th grade will meet at 2pm.

Preschool Drop-by storytimes (no signup required) will be held on Wednesdays at 10:30am and 12:30pm beginning on June 30th through August 4th.

As always, the reading incentive program is available throughout the summer at your convenience, and children can count books read from June 1st through August 14th. You'll once again be able to track online (see instructions on how to signup) or in-library/print. (If you track online, please fill out the "Online Tracking Log" in the library at some point over the summer, which is the way we'll be able to cross-check everyone's logs as well as know if you would like/need a participation certificate.) Read to Me program goal is 40 books under 100 pages, while the Read Alone goal varies based on the length of the Reader's books: 20 books under 100 pages, 12 books over 100 pages or 16 if it's a combination of books over and under 100 pages. Once you select your goal, children receive two prizes (one chosen by the library, one chosen by the reader) each "quarter" on way to final goal.

All dates and times are tentative, but we hope this will help you plan camps and vacations!

Daddy Catchers!: Check out this flier for more information our dad-focused program, called Daddy Catchers. Along with the increasingly popular Daddy and Me storytimes, this program is to give dads an opportunity to have fun with their kids at the library! Studies show that boys in particular need to see a male reading role model. You can also check out GuysRead.com for how this group serves as a voice for boys and tries to encourage them in reading. And check out this informational sheet on practical ways you can encourage boys to be life-long readers!
