The Lower Macungie Library now offers wireless, "Wi-Fi", access to the Internet throughout the building for properly equipped, patron-supplied laptops and their compatible wireless access cards. The library's Internet Access Policy applies to all Internet use in the building.
Please note: for liability reasons, the library cannot provide technical assistance nor touch your laptop or wireless card.
Advantages
- You can access the Internet from different areas throughout the library.
- There is no waiting or time limit.
- You can download and save files on your own devices.
Limitations
- Printing services and other software are not available via the wireless connection.
- The signal strength may vary.
- Library staff is unable to assist with laptops, cards or configuration.
Conditions
- Virus, security, and privacy protection is the responsibility of the patron.
- The library assumes no responsibility for any alterations or interference with a laptop's configuration, operation, or data files resulting from connection to the library's wireless network.
- The library is not responsible for damage, theft, or loss of any kind to a user's equipment, software, data files, or personal property.
- The library cannot guarantee that the service will be available at any specific time or that the connection will have any specific quality or speed.
- The connection shall not be used for illegal or capacity-hogging purposes.
- All library policies apply to wireless access users.

FAQs
Does the user have windows xp?
Windows XP most of the time is set up to automatically configure itself to recognized wireless networks. If you are having problems accessing the wireless network please refer to your wireless documentation.
Is the wireless card turned on?
Some laptop manufacturers will have a switch somewhere physically on the laptop that will allow you to turn on/off the wireless device in the laptop to conserve battery power. On Apple Macintoshs, it is software based and this can be done by clicking on the cone shaped symbol on the top task bar and choosing "Turn Airport On." Please consult any documentation they may have with the laptop to see if there is a switch on the laptop that will turn it on/off.
Is Norton Internet Security installed?
Norton Internet Security/Firewall has been known to cause problems with many wired/wireless connections to a network. Depending on what version they have the process to disable could be different. Please refer to the documentation that came with your Norton product. If for any reason you cannot disable Norton Internet Security please refer to their Technical Support section of their website, www.symantec.com/techsupp, or contact their technical support by phone.
Is Mcafee Internet Security installed?
Mcafee Internet Security/Firewall has been known to cause problems with many wired/wireless connections to a network. Depending on what version they have the process to disable could be different. Please refer to their support site at www.mcafee.com, or contact their Technical Support hotline.
Is Zone Alarm installed?
Zone Alarm has been known to cause problems with many wired/wireless connections to a network. Depending on what version they have the process to disable could be different. Please refer to their website at www.zonelabs.com or contact their technical support by phone.
Is there a proxy in Internet Explorer?
If a proxy server is listed in the proxy connections it may prevent the user from accessing the login page to the wireless network. Please refer to your documentation regarding disabling the internet proxy.
Is Internet Explorer set to "Always dial"?
If a computer is set to auto dial to the Internet it may try to dial up to the Internet before being able to access a web page. This may prevent them from being able to access the login page.
