Beginning on October 5th the New York Public Library

will be operating “book trains!”  They’re not actual trains, but a modification of the traditional conveyor system used to transport materials between storage and the various reading rooms.  The train consists of 24 individual cars that can move up to 75 feet per minute.

The main reading room of the library, or the Rose Main Reading Room, has been closed for two years for restoration, but will open back up on Wednesday, October 5th with the book train.
