Kory Stamper is a lexicographer and editor for the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Some of her responsibilities include defining new words and updating old ones to stay current. Her job is so interesting that she runs a YouTube series talking about words and various aspects of her awesome day to day job. She gave a fascinating interview a few years ago where she shared some tidbits about what she’s experienced, such as she has probably looked at and edited in some way every single word in all of Merriam-Webster’s dictionaries throughout her 17 years at this position.
Stamper just wrote a new book, Word by Word, in which accounts how dictionaries are made. Put simply, this woman knows her words!
