This Friday was “National Crayon Day!” Who doesn’t love coloring? Lately it seems like coloring has seen a “Renaissance” with the popularity of adult coloring books. Crayola is perhaps the most popular coloring supply company, with their yellow and green boxes being iconic to almost everyone. What isn’t surprising is that over the years the company has introduced many new colors, but what might be surprising is that they sometimes retire colors too.
It was just released that Crayola is retiring the orange/yellow color of “Dandelion” this year, it is the first time a color in the 24-count box to be retired, and is the first color to be retired in 14 years. This awesome color chart illustrates the evolution of Crayola colors from the years 1903-2010 and for a “Brief yet complex color history of Crayola” check out this article from the Huffington Post.
