Summer 2017 Programs
The 2017 Summer Reading Program Build A Better World will run June 10 – August 12, 2017. Registration for the program will be available in the library or online, beginning June 10, 2017.
This summer, we are Building A Better World at the Lower Macungie Library! Children (up to students entering 6th grade in Fall 2017) who live in the East Penn School District may register to read (or listen to) books, record the number of hours they spend reading, and earn prizes for their effort. Any type of reading (or listening) counts—books, magazines, audio books, graphic novels and more! It’s easy to earn prizes, and is a fun way to prevent “summer slide” for the next school year.
Prizes will be awarded for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 hours of reading. In addition to a fun prize, each completed reading log also earns an entry into our Summer Raffle for great prize baskets. Readers who complete more than 12 hours of reading can earn raffle entries for each additional completed reading log! Something new this year is the PRIZE WHEEL! Complete our extra fun Bonus Activities on each reading log to earn a spin.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on Saturday, June 10, 2017. Start reading and logging minutes on this date! Beginning Monday, June 19, 2017, completed reading logs can be turned in for prizes. The final day to turn in reading logs and collect prizes is Saturday, August 12, 2017. No prizes will be awarded after this date.
In addition to the great prizes that can be earned for reading, the Lower Macungie Library also offers fun programs for all ages. Program registration may be done in the library or by telephone. Registration is available two weeks prior to the program date for residents of the East Penn School District, and one week before the program for residents of other districts. For a full listing and description of available programs, please visit our events calendar or see the program registration folders (located in the spinning rack next to the Circulation Desk).
Ready to get started? Register online, or stop by the library and complete a paper registration form. Download our Summer Reading Flyer and Summer Program Calendar and get started planning your summer fun at the library!
You need Reading Logs to keep track of your time spent reading. Don’t forget to try the special Bonus Activities on each Reading Log – try at least 5 activities to earn a spin of the prize wheel!
General Program Information
Please note when selecting programs for your child, we place children in programs using the East Penn School District cutoff date of September 12th of the current school year. Whatever age your child is/was on that date will be the group he or she stays with until the next school year starts, even in the baby and preschool programs.
Also, many of our programs require advanced registration. Please contact us in advance if you would like to register for a program so that we can prepare for the right number of children. You can use the contact form on the Parents page for more details about a program or for availability.
