Build A Better World
This summer the adult program theme here at Lower Macungie Library is Build A Better World. Throughout the summer, this blog will follow this theme with a series of posts relating to this in various ways.
Today we’ll look at how a unique way of recycling helped build a better world in Colombia. 20 years ago Jose Alberto Gutiereez began collecting books that people had thrown away. Gutiereez works as a waste collector where he has collected over 20,000 books which he has turned into a community library called “The Strength of Words.” Working in Bogota, Columbia, in a poor neighborhood, the now named “Lord of the Books” has created a library for free for those who have never had access to a library before.
What a great way to build a better world!
From the Garbage to the Bookshelf
A garbage collector in Colombia has his own library for children. All the books come from the trash.
